Speeding issues

Sunday afternoon getting on with those small but important jobs around the town.

#ScrubASignSunday plus .

We have received several complaints from residents about the high speed of some vehicles leaving & entering Prudhoe along this road particularly in the 30 mph area.

We asked NCC to repaint the 30mph sign on the road as a reminder and this has been done.

Other NCC officers have been asked to progress looking at a solution to this issue.
Including extending the 30mph area.

The Police will be carrying out additional speed checks in the area.

The 30mph metal sign has been scrubbed and the pedestrian area has had the majority of the built up sand and weeds removed by us today to assist pedestrians to cross.
Work in progress .

(The heavy rain will clear a lot more away now).

We have asked if a dropped kerb could be provided to assist those wishing to use the refuge.

Reminder pedestrians including many visitors to the town cross the road between the two parts of Prudhoe golf course with their trollies, this being just outside the 30mph area.

Dog walkers are regular users of this area.

Children use this area to walk to local Schools, Nurseries and the park etc.

There are bus stops on both sides of the road.

Pedestrians please use the refuges provided.

We can only do so much but the drivers have to take responsibility for their actions.

Blood donor sessions in Prudhoe

4DD647AE-EF91-490A-80DF-87F8CBE74282

We would like to see blood donor sessions restored in Prudhoe.

We have written to  ‘NHS Blood & transplant’ today.

In June 2018 our request was declined and the below reply received, we have asked that this decision is reviewed again.

Residents and others have told us they really would like to have the service restored, as they have had to give up donating as they are not able to travel far.

Other donation locations in Tynedale have now also ceased operating.

The population of Prudhoe has increased greatly since the decision was made to terminate the local sessions.

If restored it will also be beneficial to local business keeping people in the town & encouraging others to travel there, saving donors money & time also the environment by reducing journeys.

We are delighted that the NHS has now found a way to improve their service, but ask that they consider coming back to Prudhoe.

There is a constant demand for blood, but it is lower than it was due to improvements in clinical practice and other factors. This is a trend we are seeing globally. We have reviewed our session programme and have reduced or changed our frequency of visits or locations we visit so we collect the right amount of blood at the right time to match patient’s needs.

We know our loyal donors will be disappointed by this but we have to plan our session programmes based on the amount and type of blood we predict hospitals will need.

If we run sessions too often we would collect too much blood, be inefficient in how we run our service and it would cost the NHS more to get the blood patients need.

So therefore we closed down some local sessions and will not be looking to open any new session in future

Update 13/9/19

The road is back open again, and we have been assured by Northumbrian Water that they do not intend to close it again, but MAY have to use traffic lights on the stretch of road as they carry out verge work.

In addition other roadworks MAY be needed close to the site which will be controlled by traffic lights.

They expect to be off the West Wylam site by December 2019.

The contractors have carried out some road and footpath repairs near Eastwoods villas.

NCC have also done some road patching, but this is a temporary measure until the NW work is completed and substantial road repairs are carried out as soon as practicable.

This will be part of our major road investment programme for Prudhoe.

Archaeology dig in Prudhoe

Delighted to support this important project.

Through two working weeks September 9th-20th 2019 an archaeological dig funded by The Land of Oak and Iron National Heritage Lottery Fund landscape project with the assistance of Northumberland County Council will take place in the Cockshott Dene at Prudhoe. Prudhoe’s growth from the mid 1850s was founded on the railway enabling easy extraction of coal. The coal mining has been history since the early 1960s and most of the physical remains cleared. There are remarkable survivals in the Cockshott Dene and the dig seeks to understand their context.

We are investing massively in our roads, after many years of neglect in this part of the County major roadworks continue.

Residents in this street should have received information about the works starting soon.
