Delighted to support this important project.
Through two working weeks September 9th-20th 2019 an archaeological dig funded by The Land of Oak and Iron National Heritage Lottery Fund landscape project with the assistance of Northumberland County Council will take place in the Cockshott Dene at Prudhoe. Prudhoe’s growth from the mid 1850s was founded on the railway enabling easy extraction of coal. The coal mining has been history since the early 1960s and most of the physical remains cleared. There are remarkable survivals in the Cockshott Dene and the dig seeks to understand their context.
