Reports of excess speed.

Residents inform us of speeding vehicles on a frequent basis.

The two roads mentioned most to us at the moment are those shown below.

One has traffic calming in place already and the other has been recently relaid, which some people think has caused some drivers to increase their speed.

The purpose of this post is simply remind drivers that there are various speed limits within the town and these are maximum.

If residents do report speeding incidents to us we will pass the information onto the Police, It would be quicker if residents contacted the Police directly to make sure that they are aware first hand.

Some reports we have received about what is thought to have been a speeding vehicle have taken several days for residents to make a report.

We can work with highways authorities experts & the Police to look at long term solutions if there are real concerns. This is a protracted process usually involving various forms of consultation and legal advice.

We are aware that the Police will soon be taking a proactive approach towards speeding in the town (in addition to their normal duties)

You can contact the Police in a variety of ways, it would assist if details of time / date / desc of the vehicle(s)/ location and direction were provided.

We do not discuss matters via social media but offer a range of methods for residents to contact Gordon & Ken their County Councillors.

Donation supports the Fuse

County Councillor donation from his Members allowance scheme.

“Prudhoe’s Fuse Cinema, has been operating for over four years bringing affordable entertainment to the town. When the volunteers, who run the cinema, were looking at ways to finance the purchase of a display fridge and freezer to promote their wide selection of drinks and ice cream, without passing on the cost to the customers who use the cinema, County Councillor Gordon Stewart stepped in with grant funding.

Neal Younger, director of Fuse Cinema, said “We’re very grateful for the assistance from Gordon and Northumberland County Council, as the grant has enabled us to further improve the offering we provide to the residents of Prudhoe and nearby villages.”

Fuse Cinema shows the latest blockbuster films in a custom built cinema within Fuse Media Centre on Moor Road, Prudhoe. Listings are available at www.fusecinema.co.uk with online booking also available.”

Gordon – stated ‘ I was delighted to support this well established and very popular volunteer led cinema, such a facility in Prudhoe is vital and supports the residents who would otherwise have to travel several miles to an alternative venue’

Moor road site entrance

Over the bank holiday weekend we had discussions with Gentoo in relation to the site entrance from Moor Road.

Permission was granted by the last administration as part of the planning process, for them to use that entrance with  basically no restrictions upon time etc.

The developer has now agreed to stop using this entrance.

From today (28/8/18) they will be advising all suppliers and sub contractors to start using the main entrance to the site from the B6395.

The moor road entrance will be closed to all traffic as soon as possible. (This will not take place immediately, as there will be a delay in current users passing info onto their drivers etc but a noticacle difference will be obvious over the next few days)

Therefore the amount of traffic travelling up south road / Redwell Road / Moor Road and along front street will be greatly reduced with the obvious positive impacts.

We know this news will be welcomed by many people.

We are working with the developer to try to ensure the public right of way is opened  as quickly as possible.

The closure was also built into the planning process.

As always we will continue to keep the public informed.

Moor road roadworks

Street lights.

We have learned today that the contractors. NPG have encountered an issue with connecting the street lights on Moor Road and the connection is now scheduled to take place  next Tuesday – 28th August 2018.

Resurfacing work will take place as follows-

Sunday 2nd Septemeber  2018 11pm -6am  planing out of carriageway.

Monday 3rd September 2018 11pm -6am for surfacing.

Tuesday 4th September 2018 11pm- 6am for completion of surfacing if needed.

Public Right of Way –  From Park Avenue – we realise that many residents are awaiting details of when this will reopen.

We are in weekly contact with Gentoo (& sometimes more often) – When we have something meaningful  to report we will make the information public via this website and our social media platforms & via the Hexham Courant.

We share the concerns of many people,

20 Mph zones near Schools

B15F15B2-55E7-4E43-8AAA-3970D7EF8754

20mph zones near Schools within the County have been planned for sometime.

We are aware that such a zone near to Prudhoe West Academy is one of these that has been mentioned.

There have been delays in the roll out throughout the County and we are in discussions with NCC officers to try and ‘speed’ up the process.

It is appreciated that there has to be formal consultation on such a change and cost implications but we are concerned at the lack of progress.

Additional street lighting

A request from a resident was received to improve the street lighting in this part of the town.

NCC were contacted to look at the feasibility of this request and if the additional lighting could be provided.

Much of the current street lighting is diluted due to trees that border the road.

We are in support of additional lighting being provided, and have also asked NCC to ensure that the owner of the trees are made aware of the issue and to cut the trees back.

NCC can not just go and cut trees back on private land, there is a process to go through, sometimes this may involve legal action being taken by the Council.

It is not uncommon for landowners to totally frustrate the process.

Funding has to be sourced, which may mean that other similar projects have to be postponed or shelved.

Ken has pledged to spend up go £6K of his annual members scheme allowance to progress this scheme , (this is a massive part of his £15K annual allowance).

We will continue to keep residents informed of how this proposal progresses.
