I need to fact check the below –
This will be a long running enquiry –
As always I will keep the public updated.
I have asked for information specific to Prudhoe.
The Government has announced today sweeping changes to the planning process. (12/12/24)
Specific facts are yet to be provided.

Housing Secretary Angela Rayner has said overhauling planning rules to bypass local authorities will remove “chaos and subjectiveness” from the system.
The planned changes will give local authority planning officers the power to rubberstamp development proposals without permission from council committees, as long as they comply with locally agreed plans and national regulations on standards.

What is meant by Grey belt
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) draft outlines grey belt land as green belt that includes previously developed sites or areas that contribute little to the aims of the green belt. However, it excludes areas of environmental or historical importance, such as designated heritage assets, habitats, or national parks.
Potential grey belt land might include quarries, car parks, solar parks, and even golf courses, though it will not include areas prone to flooding, or with special designations like Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs).
Furthermore, the government’s consultation expands this definition slightly, stipulating that grey belt land must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Contain substantial built development or be fully enclosed by built form
- Make minimal contribution to preventing towns from merging
- Be dominated by urban land uses or physical infrastructure
- Offer little value in preserving the setting of historic towns
What does it mean for Prudhoe ?
The facts are very brief at this time.
Prudhoe does not have a Neighbourhood plan.

The Government has indicated that 200 % increase in houses is required in Northumberland.
This is outrageous-
We need HOMES of the right type in the right number and right locations.
NOT just Houses everywhere.
We are Northumberland.
