Pupils at Adderlane Academy in Prudhoe are now able to enjoy healthy school meals from the comfort of their new lunch tables and chairs, thanks to the generosity of local partners.
The school has teamed up with Warburton’s, local Northumberland County Councillor,
Gordon Stewart, who applied for funding through the Council’s Elected Member’s Scheme, and North East housing developer, Gentoo Homes, who is currently building 404 homes at Cottier Grange Prudhoe.
The new tables and chairs, which are much more sturdy and safer than the school’s
previous 20 year old lunch set, have helped to make meal times more comfortable for the
pupils and because they are so easy and quick to put away – they have also helped to add
an additional 15 minutes to the PE class that follows lunch in the hall.
Emma Potts, Head Teacher at Adderlane Academy, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the new tables and chairs and the school is so grateful for the fantastic generosity of the donors – without their support it wouldn’t have been possible to improve the pupils’ lunch time experience!”
Brendon Ferguson, Head of Strategic Projects at Gentoo Homes, said:
“As a responsible housing developer, it’s important for us to work with local organisations and give something back to the local community. We’re delighted to work with other local partners to help Emma to revamp the school lunch hall for the pupils.”
Gordon Stewart, Northumberland County Councillor for Prudhoe South, said:
“I am delighted that Northumberland County Council agreed to support Adderlane Academy as they have shown a real commitment towards providing healthy living education on a long term basis. I’m also really grateful for the support shown by Gentoo Homes and Warburton’s.”
