I have written to Lloyds Bank and asked for a discussion regarding the closure and any proposed local support.

I have also started conversations in the town about how the PrudhoeCommunity can help those who will be most affected.

A petition to show opposition to the closure is also underway, details to follow.

Update 31/1/25

As per previous post-

I contacted Lloyds Bank and asked that they consider support locally.

I have received this reply –

I will be looking at this in greater detail over the next few days.

Dear Councillor Stewart

I am writing to notify you that we will be closing the Lloyds Prudhoe branch on 15 May 2025. However, we will be providing a Community Banker to support customers after the branch close.

A Community Banker will have set hours in a space in the local area, such as a library. They will be there to spend time with customers and help them with their banking enquiries and will have the same knowledge, experience and access to our systems as someone who works in our branches. We will be setting up this new service shortly and are happy to provide you with further information.

We will be writing to customers to explain that their branch will be closing but wanted to provide you with the details.

Many customers now choose to bank through their mobile app or online, as a result visits to our branches have fallen. The number of transactions by our personal customers using the Lloyds Prudhoe branch has decreased over the last five years by 47%. When their branch closes, customers can continue to manage their money on our mobile app, online, by calling us, or in person at the local Post Office or by visiting our Community Banker.

Mobile banking is our customers’ most popular choice when it comes to day-to-day banking, with over 20 million customers now using our app to manage their money. It gives people the ability to view, understand and manage their finances in one place.

All customers who regularly use their branch will receive a letter with details of other ways they can bank with us. For example, our customers can carry out the majority of their everyday banking activities at the Post Office, such as withdrawing or depositing cash, as well as paying in cheques.

Before reaching this decision, we carried out a thorough assessment of the alternative services that are available and how our customers are banking with us. In addition, LINK also carried out their own independent assessment.

We will support our local customers through this change, including those who may be vulnerable. We will explain the range of alternative ways that people can bank with us after their branch closes and provide tailored support for those who need it. I’ve attached details of the alternative banking options available for people – as well as details about how we made the decision.

Our colleagues who work in the branch will be offered the chance to move to a role at another branch or another part of our business.

Best regards

Update 31/1/25

County Council Conservative Candidate (Prudhoe North and Wylam) Shaun Parsons asks for a cash machine at Prudhoe retail park.

With the closure of Lloyds bank in Prudhoe announced myself and Prudhoe Conservatives are concerned about the impact on the community particularly the elderly and vulnerable and free access to cash. It is notable also that there is no free cash machine in the retail park.

Prudhoe Conservatives are exploring options and will be reporting here and on our other social media outlets very soon. I will also be discussing my forthcoming campaign for a defibrillator at the retail park.

Many towns and villages no longer have a post office.

We need our Post office more than ever, especially with many banks on the high street closing.

I asked Lloyds to make contact with the Prudhoe Post Office to ensure they have the right level of support they will need when the bank branch closes, they assured me

Please support our post office- Find a post office CLICK HERE

3/2/25 Lloyds have been in contact again today, to say a team has been allocated and are progressing possible options I have suggested.
